Phillips is a wrecking ball on the back end and loves to play physical, hard-nose hockey. He has a great stick and takes a lot of pride in being a trusted defender. He consistently makes simple plays and also can jump up in the play. He took a penalty in each game but also played the highly skilled CHL forwards hard and was able to get under their skin, particularly in the second game. Phillips moves well for a big defenseman and speed didn’t seem to be an issue for him. If he can grow his offensive game Phillips could become effective as a two-way threat.
