Projectable Skills - Shot Accuracy, High Hockey IQ,
Development Opportunities - Improve Skating Power, Use Physicality to leverage body position
When evaluating Tomas Mrsic, one has to keep in mind that the players who are ranked 2nd and 3rd on my overall list happen to be Tomas’ linemates at Delta and during the WHL Cup. Their team chemistry is off the charts and they all know how to manage the puck, keep themselves in prime passing space, and finish off chances. Tomas is a perfect fit stylistically for that line because he brings puck control, passing timing, and timely shots with pinpoint accuracy. He has a terrific one-timer especially on the right side and can also effectively finish chances in the slot. I envision Tomas more as a winger at the next level than a true C and would thus like to see him become a more shot-first threat because of how well he reads gaps in pressure. He can find that soft ice to always be a finishing threat. The biggest thing to keep working on is his skating stride. He does not quite have the top-end gear that others possess and is usually more content to survey the ice in a glide and be a trailer on plays. Tomas will thrive on a team with smart linemates, quality puck control, and maintaining pressure in the o-zone long enough to capitalize on their mistakes with quick-strike reactive plays. He has the ability to turn an innocent turnover into a tide-turning goal.

Tomas Mrsic continues to show abilities to adapt to play and really be a dangerous threat when it counts. I was pretty underwhelmed with his performance in Calgary in the summer but with quality linemates and strong puck control, he was able to be very effective in the game I watched against Okanagan Hockey Academy Black. He had enough speed to push into two-on-one opportunities and use enough deception to be a dual pass-shoot threat. We might have him a bit too low on our list.

2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge: Canada Red vs Sweden
One half of a monstrous forechecking combination alongside William Villeneuve, Tomas Mrsic was a sensational presence in the OZ. Pressure forces players to make rushed, ill-timed decisions and Mrsic takes pride in forcing those poor plays as he relentlessly hunts the puck carrier. He’s more than just a forechecking body that understands his routes as Mrsic also has quite the short passing game. Combining the two makes Mrsic a very intriguing player as he forces turnovers in close spaces, uses his short passing game to get the puck out and then reads where the space will open up and positions himself accordingly.

Tomas Mrsic is a player that I have really enjoyed watching whenever I get the opportunity to, and he is a player that you know what you can expect to get from him when he steps out onto the ice. Mrsic plays with lots of energy and is speedy driving at the defense making sure they recognize the threat he can bring to them as a puck carrier. His vision and passing ability were one of his biggest strengths in this game and he was able to access and exploit the passing lanes that his speed opened him up to as the defense was forced to drop back and create these gaps. Defensively though, I thought Mrsic was excellent in this one as he was able to pursue puck carriers and made some nice plays with his poke check by getting his stick in passing lanes or dispossessing players along the boards. He broke up plays well and he showed no hesitation to clear the puck out of the zone knowing that the forecheck would quickly be swarming him. He is an intelligent player and such a joy to watch.

Medicine Hat Tigers vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes - Dec. 17, 2021
When Tomas plays for Delta, he is often not the most prominent puck carrier. He is looking to be a positive passing transition player and then sneak into subtle lanes to be a shot-first threat off the rush. Those are the traits I could see in him for his debut for Med Hat. He made some terrific plays in the defensive zone to win puck battles or establish himself as a support person during board battles. He made simple outlets and tried to accelerate into some possible shooting lanes. Sadly, nothing came out of those situations and despite being in decent position most of the time, the puck never found its way to him. No shots and no scoring chances. That being said, his pace was up to par and he certainly showed that same adaptive play which consistently puts himself in positions to be a team support and scoring threat. That will pay off down the line. I do wonder how his game will develop and if he will add longer puck touches as he drives play down the middle. Despite nothing coming out of this game, there were a lot of positives.

Prime Hockey Expo - August 17, 2021
My notes on Tomas weren’t as extensive as they were on some of the other Team Yellow forwards which was probably because he wasn’t a big catalyst for transition entries. His skating stride does come across as average at times but he can move into space powerfully in short bursts. There were times however that he can show some movement on zone entries with strong puck control. He can anticipate passing lanes defensively and turn play around quickly as well. His bread and butter was the heavy snap on his wrist shot and the speed of the release. He absolutely buried a couple of pucks in the slot even from a bit of distance. He glides into the slot area and rips that release using his lower body strength; shooting back against the grain. He also can play a more physical brand of hockey along the boards. He pummeled a kid in one moment that caught me off guard. Mrsic showed quality elements of spacing and well-timed lanes that show he could be a shoot-first center who can punish opponents with strategy rather than a run and gun style.
