McCrate has shown the potential to be a top defenseman in the USHL and college. As a rookie, he has shown the ability to jump up and fill in lanes offensively, supporting his teammates. He has good instincts on when to be aggressive and when to just contain opposing forwards. McCrate is difficult to play against as he has a hard stick and is willing to play a mean game. Improving his agility will help elevate McCrate’s game and make him more dangerous all over the ice.
