Although he didn’t rank quite as highly in terms of goals scored as you might expect for a player on this list - 15 in 39 games played, I think the SSF Blizzard forward possesses every bit of the requisite ability to develop into an effective goal scorer in the QMJHL. He is quite competent in one of the underlying elements that I think is so critical for goal-scorers, which is his ability to collect and settle pucks seamlessly while playing at game-pace. Although this element of his game did present some gaps earlier in the year I think it’s something that he’s worked on and improved on quite a bit throughout the year. He can be somewhat evasive and unpredictable in the offensive zone, possessing an adequate level of agility as well as solid balance and ruggedness. I think of him as playing a bit of a cyclone style offense. What I mean by that is oftentimes Michaud will begin applying offensive pressure at the perimeter of the ice. This is where he is most mobile and unpredictable. He can, and occasionally will release a high-power shot from the outside if he’s able to find or create a momentary shooting lane, but more than likely he will attempt to find himself an opportunity to skate the puck deeper into the zone. Going layer by layer in what almost looks like a cyclone pattern until he elects to shoot or crash the net. His ability to retain possession as he navigates the inevitable congestion is what makes him so effective in earning high-danger scoring chances.

If there’s one player from the 2006 Quebec class who really looks like he could be a pain to play against in the QMJHL very soon, it’s probably Alexis Michaud. The 5’11’, 160lb forward has the frame and strength that indicates potential for some substantial growth, and thrives on his ability to surreptitiously deceive his opponents while playing without the puck. In this sense, he demonstrates an incredibly high level of analytical creativity whereby defecting possession to a more attention-grabbing teammate enables him to move into soft ice and exploit his opponents least defended areas. With the puck he is adaptive under backpressure, and rarely finds himself locked into a lane. Michaud uses tactics rooted in similar skills to impose his will on the defensive side of the puck as well. Realizing that his effectiveness is found not so much in stripping the puck from opponents himself, but rather, being the one to securely collect them when they are suddenly ejected from the insecure possession of his peers enables him to overcome one of the minor deficiencies in his game, which is the slight inconsistency of his burst speed. Finally, Michaud demonstrated a strong proficiency in quickly releasing a rocket of a shot in stride and from long range. With a minor adjustment in terms of the pace at which he gets his feet moving he could become a highly effective player in all situations at the next level.
