The only defenseman at this tournament to lead his team in points with 6 points in 4 games which also tied him for the most points for a defenseman at this year’s camp. McArthur’s strong play at both ends of the ice made him one of the most impactful skater for this Navy Blue squad as his combination of physicality and skating ability made him a stout defender off the rush where he was able to often step up at opportune times to deliver a solid hit along the boards or a well-timed poke check to dispossess opposing puck carriers while tracking them into the zone. What caught my eye the most during this camp was his dynamism as a puck carrier using his quick stick work and mobility to consistently make his way through the neutral zone and gain the offensive blue line where he was able to spot open teammates joining him up the ice and pull of some creative slip and spin passes to get pucks through defenders and create dangerous chances off the rush. Without the puck, he was equally as quick to join transition plays up the ice and create the numbers advantage on counter-attacking opportunities with this involvement leading to him being such a key contributor of the Navy Blue offence.

While playing solidly and keeping his game simple, McArthur was effective and a reliable player. His skating ability stands out when watching him play as he can cover tons of ice in little time. He makes quick, simple passes and always looks to move the puck up ice. McArthur could look to try and create more offense on his own, taking his game to the next level. He has shown that he has tons of skill and ability, he just needs to use it to his advantage more. McArthur also poses as a shooting threat with a heavy release from the point.

McArthur stood out immediately in this game with his impeccable skating stride. He is so fluid, efficient, and balanced in transitions, allowing him to jump into the play deep offensively and still recover in time to fulfill his defensive responsibilities. His reads were sharp all game, and he consistently found himself in the right spots, both with and without the puck. He has solid awareness, and a game plan prepared before gaining possession, which he uses to exploit unfocused moments by the opponent. There were a couple moments in this game where an Anaheim forward dumped the puck in to go for a change and McArthur was able to quickly retrieve the puck and fire a long range pass up ice to kickstart an odd man opportunity.

McArthur is a good skater who was leaned on heavily throughout this game, logging a ton of minutes. He plays in all situations as the leader of the Stars d-core. He had the Stars lone assist, springing Emesibe up ice for their first goal. In his own end he uses his big body to be physical on forwards and limit their opportunities to make plays. His long reach allows him to take away the opposition's time and space, forcing turnovers. He excels at boxing out in front of his net and pinning forwards down low.

Just like on Day 1, McArthur was, again, an impactful defender on both sides of the rink as he jumped up into the action whenever he could to create the numbers advantage for his team in transition and provided a steadying presence on the back end for Team Navy Blue. He flashed his skill in various ways in this game through his strong puck moving especially in the second period when he carried the puck into the offensive zone, spun off his man and threw a blind pass across the seam that just missed the stick of his teammate on the other side. What I liked from him in this game on the defensive side of things was the physicality he brought in his own end, delivering a crushing hit on Sung in the first few minutes of the game on a zone entry along the boards and following it up with a few more instances where he closed off his opponents with a well timed body check.

McArthur played a really strong two-way game for Navy Blue showcasing some of his dynamic puck moving abilities along with solid defending off the rush. He was a very good puck mover from the back end whether it was carrying the puck up with his smooth skating and stick handling ability to maneuver his way through the neutral zone and effectively enter the offensive zone with possession or use smart puck touches in transition to advance the puck. He was always looking to involve himself on both sides of the puck with timely pinches up the ice including his first goal of the game when he joined Omicioli on a 2-on-1 after a turnover by Team Gold at their blue line as well as doing a good job at keeping opposing forwards to the outside and forcing them to make plays early in the zone by closing them off with a strong defensive stick. He put a bow on his performance with an empty netter to seal the 5-2 victory for his team.

Broden McArthur played a solid game for the Dallas Stars Elite, coming alive more in the latter-half of the game, but before that he was playing a strong defensive game – conversative with his puck movements, and shutting down some of the top players on the other team. He was one of a few on his team who was able to consistently and successfully pin puck carriers to the boards, dig pucks out from skates, and regain possession. Despite not being the largest defender, he has a great understanding of body positioning, leverage, and overall, how to kill a play and slow things down. Defending the line his mobility and footwork was put on display, very difficult to get around, and if a puck carrier got in close proximity, he timed his moved just right to knock the puck off the stick. Later in the game he became more active with skating the puck and was able to string together some nice 2-line transition plays, gaining the zone and setting up teammates in the slot off the rush. If for a little bit more offensive activation earlier in the game, McArthur maybe could’ve found himself on the scoresheet I’d suggest.
