The team leader in goals and points was Deverin Warner, who finished with seven goals and three assists through six games. Warner was the heartbeat of Woodbridge’s offense and every time there was something going on in the attacking end it seemed like he was at the helm of it. He did an excellent job getting into scoring areas, using his stickhandling and strength to work himself towards the front of the net where he was able to earn high danger chances. His puck protection ability was integral to his success, he fended off the opposition effectively and carved himself openings to get shots off as he floated around the offensive zone. His shots were powerful and he mixed in sharp angled shots, but he found plenty of success from the front of the net where he was able to display a killer instinct and finishing touch. The puck gravitated towards him, and his ability to keep his feet moving constantly made him something of an unstoppable force as he lowered the shoulder and drove hard to the net. The defensive side of his game was almost as important to his team’s success as his offense, not only was he eager to make an impact in his own zone but he was able to do exactly that through his active stick work. He used his physicality to bump players off the puck and pin them along the boards to put himself in positions to come away with possession and quickly turn up ice himself. He made very good reads defensively, picking off passes in the slot and gathering loose pucks down low around the top of the crease. Warner was effective in many areas and his consistency was part of what made him such a driving force at the Eastern Exposure Cup

An intelligent forward with a powerful skating stride that propelled him up the ice quickly, I thought Warner was quietly one of the more effective forwards for this American team with his attention to detail that continuously impressed me especially for a player of his age. In transition, he often made simple yet efficient passes to advance pucks and followed them up by driving quickly up the ice and closely supporting puck carriers into the offensive zone where I liked his ability to work in cycle plays and keep pucks moving around the zone with quick reads. His positional play and active stick allowed him to make an impact of the defensive side of things as well, winning pucks back and spearheading plays back up the ice.
