I am growing quite fond of Kemps’ game, he is proving to be an offensive force for this Anaheim team. He stickhandled very nicely at the point and was able to prevent the puck from exiting the zone with some impressive hand-eye coordination to bat the puck out of the air and settle the play down. He has a quick first step to create separation at the point and take advantage of the space that he earned. He is an intelligent playmaker who likes skating down into the zone and looking to funnel the puck centrally for shooting chances, like when he fed Contreras the puck for their third goal of the contest. He earned himself a goal by attacking the open space in the slot and receiving a pass where he made no mistake and wired a great wrist shot over the blocker of the goalie.

Kemps had a very good game for the Ducks, playing both ends of the ice nicely. He had no trouble joining the attack when given the opportunity. He moved laterally along the line flawlessly and waited for the shooting lane to open to get off a wrister or touch the puck off to teammates as mentioned above for Schmitz’ hat trick goal. Kemps gave the Ducks a 5-4 lead in the third with a play that started and ended with him. He forced a turnover in his own end, carried the puck up ice before snapping a rink wide pass to his forward. He then read the play very well, noticed he had room to drive to the net and take a return pass which he used his long reach to deflect the puck past the goalie. All in all, a great game from Jonas at both ends of the rink.

The most involved player offensively for Anaheim was Jonas Kemps and he seemed like he was enjoying every second of it. He moved well along the blue line and used some nice moves to side step the Shattuck forecheckers and claim some space for himself to unleash his heavy wrist shot. He joined up in a couple of rushes and was able to create some offensive opportunities from his teammates by using his body to draw defenders out of position after laying the puck off. He kept the attacks flowing nicely with quick and crisp passes while moving into open space. Defensively he did pretty well holding up against the attackers and used his body to nudge players off the puck, but he did lose out on a couple of races to the outside in which he was caught flat footed and relied on his reach. Overall I liked what I saw from Jonas Kemps and he was the biggest contributor to their offense and chance creation.

He’s a big, lanky kid at 6’4 with nice extension and recovery potential. He was able to deliver outlet passes quickly because of it and step into some extra whip and power on his wrist shot too. At times, he’d jump into the rush and push through the slot if the moment was right and escape that pressure. One particular end-to-end rush made transition easy and certainly allowed him to stand out in the game among the defense core because of it.
