The biggest standout for me in this game was Maxim Dubé, he wasn’t responsible for creating too much offense but I was impressed with his positioning and intuition. His movement on the puck stood out the most and he was seemingly always popping up in pockets of space around the net as the puck was being fed towards goal for someone to get a stick on the puck, and he was often the player on the other end. He earned some high quality shooting chances around the net as a result of his timely maneuvers and ability to read the play and proactively get himself in the right place. He flashed his speed a few times and led rushes into the offensive zone, putting together a nice individual effort that resulted in a solid chance from the high slot. He was a dangerous player from start to finish in this one as he could very well have ended up with a couple of goals from his chances.

The Shattuck defense made it very difficult for the Gulls offense to break them down, but Maxim Dubé was one of the attackers that I thought played pretty decently. He was able to play with pace and break through the forward lines, using his vision to make some good passes and spread out the offense nicely. He moved well off the puck and was able to slip into dangerous areas of the ice and get on the end of the puck.

Seeing as he’s eligible for the 2024 QMJHL Draft, Dubé was the player I was most familiar with coming into this game. I still don’t think he’s a dynamic in-puck threat, but I really thought he did a great job being around the puck and getting to the dirty areas of the ice. Dubé was doing a great job locating loose pucks in the offensive zone to extend possession time, and in conjunction with his impressive scanning habits he was able to get pucks off his stick quickly and into high-danger areas. His impressive shot was on full display in this contest as well, scoring two goals with one of them being the game winner. His first goal was a rip from the bottom of the circle where he rifled a hard wrist shot that seemed to go through the Neponset Valley netminder. His second goal saw him pick up a loose puck in the offensive zone, spin and fire a quick shot which ended up finding its way through traffic and into the net.
