As it's always been the case with every viewing of EMC this season, Parker Vaughan was their star. When he was on the ice, he was the focal point of almost every sequence, and everything flowed through him. Vaughan's power and smart puck management were the main elements I saw, as he was constantly carrying the puck, using his frame to protect it from opponents, and finding ways to dodge and evade pressure. Through these actions, Parker was easily the Canucks primary transition engine, being the one who entered the zone with control so often and looking to drive the middle upon entry. His combination of magician-like puck skills and powerful frame enabled him to attack the middle so effortlessly and register plenty of high-quality scoring chances. Especially on the powerplay, Parker controlled everything, set up the attack, and made things tick. He was commanding the puck in the offensive zone and looking for ways to attack the middle for quality shots on the man advantage. He created a goal on the powerplay, using his power to protect the puck to the outside, protect the puck, and cut in toward the net, which sparked a rebound goal. Vaughan was bumped down a few spots on my final list, but it had nothing to do with his play over the week as he once again only impressed, being the primary playdriver on the Canucks.

I thought Vaughan really helped drive the play of his line with his puck management skills along with his nice blend of power and skill. Parker was very efficient at carrying the puck in transition and transporting it into the offensive zone. He was able to prolong possessions with tidy work along the boards shielding the puck from pressure. He was the setup man for Lygitsakos’ first goal, hitting him with a dime of a pass from the corner while he was streaking through the middle. The cherry on top was Vaughan’s goal to make it 6-3, starting with him breaking up a sequence in the defensive zone forcing the US out to neutral ice. He challenged the defender in the neutral zone, stripped him of the puck and went in alone, making a quick deke and beating the goalie clean.
