A tasteful blend of wrecking-ball and finesse, Magog's Raoul Boilard is a player who has shown evidence of positive growth in the needed areas throughout his draft year. Boilard is a competent puck carrier who uses his upper body strength very well to guard the puck in transition and work his way to the middle of the ice. Boilard is quite supportive of his defensemen on a good night, usually keeping his distance minimal as a passing outlet. His ability to manipulate speed and use east-west lanes to scramble defenses shows a blend of strong intuition and skill in carrying the puck. He manages to also integrate creativity and skill, while being hard on the puck as he cuts to the middle. A firm grip on his stick and attention to detail as he weaves through traffic enable him to find clear shooting lanes in the middle of the ice where he can create immediate and supplemental scoring opportunities. He can push the limits of hyperactivity in the offensive zone, but almost always manages to stay disciplined in terms of maximizing his positioning. It's a unique balance to be struck and is one that enables Boilard to realize the value of several facets of the offensive game. In order to play center at the next level he will need to work on a more powerful and lengthy extension of his stride, but if cast as a winger I think he could find ways to be effective quite soon.
