What a smart hockey player. On a strong St. Albert team filled with unique talents, Chase found a way to adapt positionally, fill gaps, and break down offenses with his smarts and dual-threat abilities in traffic areas. He’s the kind of player who gets a lot of the details of the game right by applying pressure, keeping defenses on their toes, and filling a gap or a need depending on his linemates. I thought his play at the Alberta Cup sold it for me to get even a slight bump higher in the rankings. His understated efficiency made him one of the players in the second half of the season to bump up his point totals from 1.42PPG to 1.71 PPG in league play. The biggest thing that some other players have on him currently is just a bit more size and power to the way they play. If he continues to grow and fill out, he will surpass others.

He showed that he is a very smooth skater and can sometimes be unassuming in his threat level due to how technical his stride is and how efficient he moves around. It isn’t in sharp cuts or quick first few strides necessarily all the time. I liked his shot in these games too as he can snap with a heavier whip from the outside as one of his goals came off a gorgeous shot off the rush just above the pads. I found that he really understands the timing of plays whether it was a quick extension of his reach to find a passing lane around a defender or picking moments to slip into the slot into softer space. He played with a lot of efficiency and intellect in how he controlled possession and looked for lateral passing lanes. He’s also the kind of player who can sit side of net too and bury the odd one.
