Another Red Deer Rebel that came into this tournament with hype, Morrison is an average sized skater that plays with poise and confidence. He carries the puck efficiently and activates well on the rush when his team is moving up ice on. In the OZ he isn’t flashy but he controls the point well, has a good slap shot from the point and he know how to set the pace. He picked his spots well when deciding when to move down off the point and overall, he has strong read/react abilities. He is not as dominant or as flashy as you may expect from a defender that produces as much offense as he does but he is intelligent and effective in his decision making. He can lead the rush up ice with the puck but can at times skate himself into dead ends when there is not a clear option available. He could very likely be a top 30 pick for the 2026 WHL draft.

EVENT General
I find that he’s as active as I can expect a defender to be at this level; often cosplaying as a forward. In his games early on this year he showed he’s so excellent as faking and moving, faking and moving. That transition ability partnered with the intention to slash into dangerous spacing opens up so much for others too. He preferred to use that space in open ice to test the lateral ability of players or draw them away to make space for teammates. I loved his constantly open posture, his small adjustments, and his fundamentals of spacing and adapting. He can walk pucks to the middle on the PP, deliver real solid wrist shots from great angles and timing, and even has a big windup to his one timer slapshot. I find his mobility to be with aggression and intention rather than lacking purpose. As he grows, if he can add some more grit and that ability to defend against physical pressure while retaining possession, he’s going to be very tough to keep from that interior.

EVENT John Reid Tournament
Morrison is another intriguing 2011-born player on the Rebels. He played with a lot of confidence and made calm, composed plays at both ends of the ice. I saw him use subtle head fakes, tomahawk strides, and hesitations to freeze defenders and open up lanes as he walked the blue line. He generated several good looks from the point, and while his shot still has room to develop (which is expected for his age), he consistently got pucks through. Defensively, he scanned the ice well and skated pucks out under pressure to relieve pressure. I really like his projectability going forward.

I was really struck by how poised and mature Morrison was all tournament long. He is already so well rounded despite his young age, playing with the confidence and composure of a veteran. His skating is already a standout aspect, as he moves with a lightness and fluidity that allows him to transition smoothly in all directions. He isn’t the strongest player, but his pristine balance allows him to hold his own as he uses the opponent’s momentum against him. With the puck on his stick, Morrison shows sharp hockey sense and the stick skills to maneuver through traffic and push up ice effectively. He always has the right tool for the situation and has that innate sense that top players have of what is needed in the moment. There are really no weaknesses to pick apart in his game and I’m excited to see how high he can climb.

Game Information Alberta Elite Hockey League Playoffs: Calgary Bisons vs Red Deer Rebels
I thought this was one of the best games I’d seen him play all year. He was aware, showing aggression, driving play, and using his fakes and hesitations well to open up shot and pass fakes. He’s a heads up defender so he can sense the pressure and counter his approach if he feels necessary. I might mean simply ignoring the D to D and waiting another moment to hit his C with a pass into the middle. I thought he used the little balance shifts on his inside edges too to open those slivers of shot lanes around players. He certainly understands how to shoot around intentional shot blockers. The 2011-born player has gotten stronger this season.
