The chatter was strong on Martin going into and coming out of this pair of games. With more skilled linemates, Martin was a solid complimentary force for the CHL team, laying some thundering hits and running solid give and goes across both bluelines, setting up faster, more dynamic players for controlled zone transitions. He appeared in my notes over and over and over again for his effective lower pace playmaking in every zone. Exit passes out of the defensive zone, offensive entry passing, net rushes, eating the puck along the boards on the penalty kill, and good puck support when others had possession, it was all very very solid with Martin. There is still a bit of skepticism about NHL projectability in a major role, but the strength, competitiveness and effective simplicity is there with Martin, and he carved out a really good role for himself here.
