2022 USA HOCKEY SELECT 15 PDC: KELLY GREEN VS NAVY BLUE
Gavin Kor does all sorts of things really well. In his smaller frame he is a very smooth operator of the puck who can read his surroundings and quickly make decisions to evade pressure or capitalize on his opponents risks. He is able to change directions and find space much quicker than most peers. As we know at this level of play, it’s only possible to evade pressure for so long before you eventually need to attack the middle or start to see the bigger picture. I think Kor’s ability to be slippery along the boards will help him to continue extending plays, but it will be important for him not to rely too much on his obvious skill for risk of the ice getting smaller and smaller as he moves up. His play without the puck was very impressive in this game. He did just as much to separate his opponents from the puck as he did to effectively wear them down with the puck.

2022 USA HOCKEY SELECT 15 PDC: KELLY GREEN VS ROYAL BLUE
Gavin Kor was a supremely active player within his teams offensive zone structure. I thought he was certainly one of those players who hit the ice with the right mindset, came to play, and took advantage of his opportunities. He seemed to bring an element of creativity to the overall structure of how his team attacked while he was on the ice, identifying areas to support the puck and injecting himself to do so as needed. He was never hesitant to attack a lane in the middle of the ice, and often had a backup lane for when things tightened up. He moved fluidly around the ice to give his teammates outlets to move the puck and carried with him substantial momentum with which to cut inward through traffic. In a pinch I found that Kor maintained very good composure, relying on muscle memory and skill to help him evade the poke-checks and contact of his opponents.

2022 US Nationals Quarter Finals: Pittsburgh Penguins Elite (0) vs Shattuck St. Mary’s (4)
Gavin Kor, like William Belle, once again makes an appearance for the Shattuck on the standout list. His speed and puck skills were just as good as the were in the previous games, making plays in tight areas at a high speed and with quick decisions it was hard for the Pens to contain him. He had a few shots on goal that challenged the goalie, as his release is quick and the shot that follows is extremely heavy. Kor picked up an assist on Clarke Nehmens second goal that made the game 3-0 Shattuck. As the tournament continues, I have a feeling Kor is due for a huge breakout game.

2022 USA Nationals 14U Game Recap: Shattuck-St Mary’s (3) vs LA Jr. Kings (0)
I thought this was a very impressive game for Gavin. He would weave side to side through the NZ with his shorter bursts on zone entries. Since he has terrific reaction time, Gavin can push heavily on his inside edges to shift and accelerate past pressure. It helps him evade and push through tighter skating areas. His best chance came from weaving through pressure and keeping a gap from the defensive stick to shoot in the high slot.

2022 USA Nationals 14U Game Recap: Green Bay Jr. Gamblers (2) vs Shattuck St. Mary’s (3)
Gavin Kor wasn’t as dominant as he was in yesterday’s game, but he was still a nuisance and a problem for the Gamblers to handle in this one. Similar to last game, he did the majority of his damage in the corners of the offensive zone while he had the puck. His ability to slip off checks and maintain momentum as he shifts left and right while simultaneously shifting his stick around can put defenders in a turnstile. His speed was still on display, as expected, making quick crossovers to build up speed and accelerate through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone, he pushed back defenders with said speed and created some space as a result.

2022 USA Nationals 14U Game Recap: Nashville Jr Predators (3) vs Shattuck St. Mary’s (7)
On an incredibly deep roster such as Shattuck, if you don’t put up multiple points you often won’t standout, but Gavin Kor was still able to make his presence known despite not lighting the world on fire with point production. On the powerplay, it was clear the objective was to get him the puck to let him release his wicked one-timer. He got a few shots off but the majority of them were either blocked or deflected out of play. His ability to get open for passes and quickly corral the puck before ripping it on net makes him a scoring threat from all areas of the ice. Along the wall and in the corners, he was able to create space for himself by using pivots and turns coupled with his soft hands to evade opponents’ stick checks, often drawing them in intentionally before exploding by them with a quick crossover.

14U Game of the Week Post-Game Report – #1 Shattuck St. Mary’s vs #2 Chicago Mission
Picking up 3 points in the victory, 2 goals, and 1 assist, Gavin Kor was one of the most opportunistic players for Shattuck and took advantage of any chance he got with precision. Scoring the first goal of the game Kor showed off good strength as he crashed the net and buried the puck in close. Kor’s ability to stay on his feet when fighting through checks shows good lower body strength and control of his edges, all whilst handling the puck and making in ways towards the goal. When scoring the empty net goal Kor showed off great speed to beat a Mission defender to open ice, as he put himself in a position to be the recipient of a pass that allowed him to hit the open cage. Kor picked up his assist by releasing a bullet of a one-timer on the powerplay that hit the post and bounced out in front, allowing Henry Brzustewicz to bury the loose puck. Kor was another player who put up pretty good possession numbers considering his team was outplayed and could be argued to be the first star of the game.

Nearly making a case for the top-5, Gavin Kor came on strong towards the end of this event with a broad spectrum of skill and ability that could see him continue to climb as this class develops. The assertive forward has quick feet and builds substantial momentum through open ice, despite some minor technical flaws in his stride, and has no trouble navigating congestion at high pace with the puck. He is extremely energetic in attacking the offensive zone, wearing opponents down along the boards to earn possession, and then circling the offensive zone with his head on a swivel to identify passing or direct attacking lanes. His ability to think and counteract pressure while carrying the puck is an extremely positive indicator for growth and projection. Depending on what he sees, Kor is capable of threading accurate passes to the slot, as well as leveraging his tenacity and puck skill to get the puck to the net himself.
