Through strong puck protection and stick handling abilities, Bergeron established himself as one of the more dominant puck possessions forwards on his team, showing the ability to patiently patrol the outside of the offensive zone with the puck while scanning for opportunities to attack and generate quality chances off his stick. I thought he became a very reliable puck carrier on zone entries, often curling back to re-assess when there were limited options off the rush but what I found most impressive was his creative stick work that he used to challenge defenders in isolated situations whether it was a quick one-touch move to get behind or dragging the puck around opponents to get a cleaner look at the net. His overall strength, both on his skates and on his stick, played a large part in his effectiveness in extending possessions in the offensive zone as he used his upper body to shield opponents away from the puck while proving he could fight through stick checks and continue to maintain possession of the puck. I also thought he showed a real commitment to a complete 200-foot game in this showcase as I saw him cover the role of pinching defenseman on multiple occasions as well as a handful of strong hustle plays by tracking back into his own end and breaking up transition chances for the opposition which really rounded out a strong all-around performance for Bergeron at this event.

Seemingly always trending upwards regarding his physical development, along with development of other tools and skills, Ty Bergeron was one of the top forwards for this Team Orange squad, using his lanky frame mixed with soft puck touches to be a dominant puck handling threat. Seemingly no matter the obstacle, Bergeron was able to delicately avoid traffic, and or go through it if necessary, absorbing contact and protecting the puck in the process by keeping his feet moving, executing tight twists and turns, all while playing with his head up and eventually finding a lane to send a puck over to a teammate. He was able to succeed both playing from the perimeter of the ice, hooking passes through to the slot and goalmouth, along with left his mark in the corners and in front of the net, using his reach and soft touches to pull pucks from scrums, flip to his forehand, and make a play in tight, whether it be a small area pass or a quick shot on goal. He demonstrated a high level of problem solving, along with methodical thinking when handling the puck, never one to rush into a play or throw a puck away, he outwaited opponents on several occasions and was able to create some extra time and space as a result.

A great blend of speed, skill, and power, Ty Bergeron was one of the driving forces for his team, making aggressive plays through the middle of the ice, forcing his way between the dots, and generating scoring chances from in tight as a result. The puck handling dexterity he owns allows him to pull pucks through-and-around defenders, utilizing his body, along with some good balance to shield the puck in the process. Mix this with some nice puck handling ability, and once everything clicks simultaneously, he can make great moves in stride with speed 1-on-1 to create scoring opportunities. As a whole he was extremely versatile, away from the puck he used his size to force opponents off pucks with good physical play, clogging up the middle of the ice in transition in particular, he cut off lanes well, intercepted passes, and kept traffic to the outside in defensive transitions, along with formed some quick counters in transition too.

Ty Bergeron continues to be one of the most impressive forwards on his strong Honeybaked squad, leading the charge offensive, the blend of physicality, intensity, and skill makes him very tough to handle for many of his peers. His ability to drop the shoulder, get the feet moving, protect the puck wide, and crash the crease is an element of his game he consistently uses and is impactful more often than not. The leverage he gets both on-puck, and off-puck going into battles allows him to remain firm, balanced, and strong on his feet as he gets under opponents, shields the puck, wins battles, and overall is dominant physically. The manipulation of his reach and quick puck touches makes him lethal in close quarters, he can fire off a shot from several different locations and body positions, adding an element of deception to his game. Once you combine the strength, speed, and skill, he creates so much ice for himself and others, whether it be off the rush or on the cycle, ultimately being a great player in any role to mesh plays together.

Ty Bergeron continues to string together an effective set of games at the Select 15s Camp. He seemingly always makes a difference and has the ability to chip in to some degree, whether he’s all over the scoresheet or not. In this one he picked up 1 assist, and on the 1-1 tying goal he sent over a beautiful, perfectly placed, pass to Ryland Rooney across the ice. The vision and awareness to quickly execute plays as such makes Bergeron such an opportunistic force, as even with the slightest bit of space, he can make you pay. He didn’t have too much in terms of specific, notable, plays in this one, but continued to show off good hands and reach, protecting the puck by keeping his feet moving, avoiding crowds, and using his frame to box out opposition. Subtle changes in pace and direction allow Bergeron to separate himself a little bit from other lanky puck protecting forwards; he doesn’t solely rely on his size, but quick turns thanks to good edges, and hands that can match the pace of his feet. If needed, in 1-on-1 situations he flashed a few slippery moves around opponents to create some space, he doesn’t always seek out these opportunities to execute flashy moves, but when needed he reacts quickly to the play and can pull them off in stride.

Rounding things out for Team Orange, Ty Bergeron was one of the first players to jump off the page for me in this, using his range and solid skating base to navigate the ice and whip shots on the net with some good power and a nice release. He was strong at building speed in transition, handling the puck softly, avoiding traffic and working around bodies, he was methodical in his movements, controlled under pressure, and had the skill and range to his puck handling to get around sticks and waltz into quality shooting areas on some plays. He picked up an assist on Alexander Milojevic’s goal as he went into the corner with some good speed, delicately pulled the puck out of the corner, and danced around the next defender, before sending a firm pass cross-ice to Milojevic. It was a great display of good strength to get engaged in scrum, and then make a quick read to make the most of a passing lane.

It became clear early on that Bergeron is much more physically advanced than most of his peers and he’s figured out how to use it to his advantage. He was relying on his size and puck control to get the middle of the ice in this game, often shrugging multiple defenders while cutting off the halfwall and getting a shot off from the slot. He showed some good skill in transition as well, using his hands to beat defenders one on one to get into space and execute cross-ice passes through seams to generate high-danger chances. Bergeron utilized his strengths to perfection on his team’s first goal of the game by muscling his way to the front of the net, retrieving a loose puck and using his soft hands to pull the puck to his forehand before depositing over the goaltender.

Ty Bergeron was very impactful in this game coming up with a goal on shorthanded breakaway where he won the race to the loose puck that was chipped behind the Florida defenseman and bury a sweet goal in tight over the goalie’s shoulder to put his team up 4-1. He also contributed to the third HoneyBaked goal, where he was a step ahead of the opposing forward and disrupted a pass to the point that bounced behind the point man and created a two-on-one that was fired home by Maddox Cross. It wasn’t surprising to see him contribute in that way as prior to that he knocked a couple opponents off the puck in the neutral zone by anticipating their next move.

Scoring a massive tying goal for his team at 2-2 late in the third, Ty Bergeron was one of the more impressive offensive weapons on there today. The power and finesse to his game let him create some space with crafty moves off the rush, pulling pucks around defenders in stride, taking advantage of poorly positioned opponents, or those lacking speed to contain him. As the game went on, he began showing a bit more flash, skating the puck more, making 1-on-1 moves against defenders, and opening some ice up through the middle. His game tying goal was quite the spectacle, as a puck was centered in front of the crease, Bergeron lost an edge, yet as he was falling managed to chop at the centering pass and elevated the puck past the goalie. Throughout the game away from the puck he was able to use his size and competitiveness to play a strong defensive game as well, getting in lanes, and freeing pucks up with a strong stick.
