Day 2: 2021 USA Hockey Select 16 Camp - Whitelaws performance in this game was one based in pure skill. He is very adaptive with the puck and can improvise in tight spaces. In this game, the USHL first-overall selection demonstrated impressive footspeed, especially in open ice, and an ability to release the puck with power while in stride. His optimal off-puck positioning results in him frequently receiving pucks in dangerous areas of the ice, although in this game he didn't seem to have the finishing touch.

Second Round
USA Hockey Select 16 Camp - Although surprisingly quiet through parts of this event, Whitelaw’s acute skills as well as tenacity and effort remained a focal point of his entire package in this contest. Unlike many of his more obviously eye-catching peers, Whitelaws value was not so much realized in his speedy transitions, but rather his pure ability to do all that is necessary to maintain possession, particularly in the offensive zone. He was far from intimidated by bigger or stronger players, and battled passionately for possession against any opponent. He infused agility into both his on-puck play, as well as while forechecking in order to deceive the puck carrier and strip them of the puck. His ability to actively coordinate the flow of play in the offensive zone, as well as lead in the execution of vital passing plays provided a crucially valuable tool for his team's sustained attack, and ultimate finishing ability, which is something that few players are able to replicate.

First Round
William Whitelaw is a 2005 who made Shattuck's prep team as a double underager following in the footsteps of some pretty amazing players. Will sees the ice like a blank canvas always looking for the next play, knowing not only where his teammates are going, but also where the defenders are going. It opens up the ice and creates nothing but opportunity for him and the rest of his 5 man unit. Will reminds of a Johnny Gaudreau, a smaller guy who you think there's no way he will have success against bigger and older players and every time you watch he is a force creating scoring chances all over the ice. If he is not taken for the '05 USA NTDP then it is a miss by the team. Will makes everyone on the ice better when he is out there. Simply put, he is a special player. Whitelaw's NCAA recruiting will be an interesting road as a local Minnesota boy will he be drawn to the Golden Gophers or will he be another Midwest boy to head east to a Harvard, BC or BU?
